Summary of Requirements for Transitional C Certificate
The Transitional C pathway to certification was created for career changers and others holding appropriate graduate or professional degrees. The Transitional C certificate validates employment as the teacher of record for a period of three years.
To become certified the candidate must:
- hold a graduate academic or graduate professional degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or from an institution authorized by the Board of Regents to confer degrees.

- complete requiredÌýÌýincluding the:
- Educating All Students Test (EAS) and
- Subject Specific Content Specialty Test (CST)
- Ìýand commit to a school district for three years of employment as a teacher in the area of the certificate sought.
During the three year period the candidate works under the Transitional C certificate they will complete required program coursework and a mentored teaching experience. The Transitional C certificate authorized a candidate to teach only in a school district for which a commitment for employment has been made. In addition, the certificate is only valid as long as the candidate is matriculated in good standing in an intensive Transitional C teacher education program leading to the professional certificate. The candidate is expected to pass the edTPA while working under the Transitional C and upon successful exam and program completion qualifies for professional certification.
