Program Office/Description: 

OPD investigates allegations of Professional misconduct in various professions.Ìý Pharmacy is one of the largest profession we regulate, as we have jurisdiction over the pharmacies and the pharmacists.Ìý Pharmacy inspections are mandatory for a newÌý pharmacy to open.Ìý After the initial inspection, pharmacy can be inspected randomly at anytime.ÌýÌý

The Assignment (Description of Job): 

Interns will work in all aspects of investigative work, including pharmacy inspections.Ìý The work will entail shadowing investigators during inspections, as well as during interviews of witnesses and subjects who are being investigated.Ìý They will be exposed to the multitude of complaints the Office of Professional Discipline (OPD) receives and the laws that are being violated.Ìý The interns will also get experience in writing detailed investigative reports, analyzing physical and documentary evidence, learn how and when to use recording and surveillance devices, learn the importance of chain of custody,Ìý observe case presentations to prosecuting attorneys, observe disciplinary hearings, learn various database searches and observe communications between OPD investigators and other local and federal agencies.Ìý

Under the supervision of an Investigator, intern will assist with inspections and visit pharmacies to determine if there are licensed pharmacists on duty.Ìý An alarming number of pharmacies have been found to be operating without a pharmacist on duty, putting the public at risk.Ìý

Students who are candidates to receive degrees in criminal justice or related fields.

Schedule/Hours: 

15 hours per week

Paid Internship Hourly Rates: 

Undergraduate students will be paid $15/hour and graduate students will be paid $18/hour. For all offices located in NYC or Westchester, Suffolk, or Nassau Counties, undergraduate students will be paid $16.00/hour and graduate students will be paid $19.00/hour.
